Aligarh, February 9 :The Department of NiswanwaQabalat, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a One-Day National Workshop on “Antenatal Fetal Surveillance: From Basic to Advanced Monitoring” onFebruary 9, at the UGC–Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), AMU. The workshop aimed to enhance academic understanding and clinical competence in antenatal fetal surveillance by integrating classical Unani principles with modern diagnostic and monitoring techniques for improved maternal and fetal outcomes.

The inaugural session was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Naima Khatoon, who formally inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director, UGC-MMTTC, AMU, and Professor Mohammad Khalid, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, AMU, graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour.

In her Presidential Address, Professor Naima Khatoon lauded the Department and Faculty for organising a workshop of national importance. She remarked that AMU encourages initiatives fostering innovation, skill enhancement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and formally declared the workshop open.

Welcoming the participants, Professor Suboohi Mustafa, Chairperson, Department of NiswanwaQabalat and Organising Secretary, highlighted the importance of antenatal fetal surveillance in safeguarding maternal and fetal health. She emphasised that timely assessment, early diagnosis, and appropriate monitoring are crucial in reducing maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. She also outlined the objectives of the workshop, including technical lectures.

Professor S M Safdar Ashraf Sahab, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU, stressed the importance of evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration in Unani medical education. Professor Badruddin Khan Sahab, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, AMU, appreciated the initiative and remarked that such national-level programmes significantly enhance clinical skills and academic vision of students and practitioners.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi emphasised the relevance of integrating traditional systems of medicine with modern medical sciences and lauded the Faculty of Unani Medicine for selecting a clinically relevant theme. Professor Mohammad Khalid appreciated the efforts of the organising team and highlighted that such programmes promote research orientation, interdisciplinary learning, and skill development among faculty members and students.

A Book Release Ceremony was held during the inaugural session. Five books authored by Professor Mustafa, Chairperson, Department of NiswanwaQabalat, along with her postgraduate scholars, including one presently serving as a teaching faculty member in the Department of Atfal, were released by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon, in the presence of dignitaries. The publications were appreciated for their academic merit and contribution to Unani obstetrics and gynaecology.

The workshop witnessed participation of over 150 delegates, including faculty members, Unani and Ayurveda practitioners, medical officers, postgraduate scholars, paramedical and nursing students, and students from institutions across the country. Academic sessions were conducted by experts from the Department of Radiodiagnosis, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, the Department of Radiotherapy, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, New Delhi. The sessions included lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on training, providing exposure to contemporary fetal surveillance techniques.

The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Abiha Ahmad Khan. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. FahmeedaZeenat, Assistant Professor, Department of NiswanwaQabalat, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU. The workshop provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, capacity building, and professional interaction, reinforcing the commitment of AMU to advancing quality education, clinical excellence, and community-oriented healthcare through meaningful engagement with emerging scientific knowledge and best practices in maternal and fetal medicine.
