ALIGARH, October 22: The Department of Jarahat, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a welcome ceremony to honour His Excellency Mir Najaf Ali Khan, grandson of HEH Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, and son of Prince Hasham Jah Bahadur.
Chief Guest Mir Najaf Ali Khan expressed his deep appreciation for AMU’s heritage and conveyed his willingness to contribute to the university, assuring that he and his family would continue to visit and support its initiatives.
Dr. Simeen Usmani presented an overview of the department’s activities. Guest of Honour, Prof. Nazar Abbas, alumnus of AMU and currently Head, Department of Moalijat, Rajasthan Unani Medical College, spoke on the Nizam’s historic contributions to AMU.
Prof. Syed Mohammad Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, delivered the presidential address, while Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Principal of the College, shared his remarks.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Tafseer Ali, Chairman of the Department, expressed pride in receiving a distinguished guest whose ancestors made generous contributions to the establishment and development of AMU and the Tibbiya College and Hospital. He also highlighted the Nizam family’s philanthropic legacy in supporting several prestigious educational and medical institutions, including Banaras Hindu University.
Prof. Iqbal Aziz, former Chairperson, proposed the vote of thanks, and Dr. Mohd Tarique, Organising Secretary, conducted the programme. Dr. Rabia Riaz recited the citation.
The event was attended by faculty members, postgraduate scholars, and staff of the Department of Jarahat, along with guests including Dr. Syed Ahmad Abbas, Chancellor, Halima Aziz University, Manipur; Mr Khalid Masood, Former President, AMUSU; Prof. Saiyad Shah Alam, Director, National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bengaluru; Dr. Syed Abbas Haider Zaidi, Director, Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine; and Mr. Tauqeer Raza, Secretary, Imamia Society.
