ALIGARH, August 1: Prof. Syed Mohammad Safdar Ashraf, Former Chairman, Department of Tahaffuzi-wa-Samaji-Tib (Preventive and Social Medicine), Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine. His term will begin on August 2, 2025, and continue until August 22, 2026, the date of his superannuation.
An alumnus of AMU, Prof. Ashraf holds degrees in Science and Unani Medicine, including a Doctor of Medicine (MD). He has over three decades of academic and administrative experience, including service as Principal.
Prof. Ashraf has made significant contributions to the development of community medicine at AMU, working in collaboration with the World Health Organization and health administration. He has actively led field-based immunization, health surveys, nutritional assessments, and outreach initiatives in underserved areas of Aligarh.
He is the Editor of five journals and Founder Editor of the Journal of Integrated Community Health. His academic contributions include nine authored or edited books/chapters and 62 research publications in reputed journals across China, Pakistan, Qatar, and the UK. He has presented at over 100 national and international conferences, including in Egypt, Turkey, England, France, and Sri Lanka.
He has delivered more than 25 keynote and invited lectures, notably at INSA, New Delhi and international venues like Paris. Recipient of six awards, including the S. Radhakrishnan National Teacher’s Award (2017), he holds memberships in more than 130 academic and professional bodies, including the AMU Court and various selection committees and public service commissions.
