ALIGARH, December 16: The Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) commenced a 15-day Postgraduate Orientation Programme aimed at welcoming and preparing newly admitted postgraduate students. The programme brings together academicians and medical leaders to familiarise scholars with the postgraduate curriculum while promoting holistic professional development.
The orientation covers a wide range of components, including personality development, communication skills, professional code of conduct, campus ethics and behaviour, presentation skills, and broader societal issues. Through these sessions, postgraduate scholars are expected to develop a comprehensive, 360-degree perspective within their respective specialties.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Prof. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, AMU, congratulated the students on their admissions as well as their recent appointments as medical officers. He encouraged them to promptly embrace opportunities for service and actively contribute to strengthening healthcare delivery.
Earlier, the programme began with an address by Prof. B. D. Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, who highlighted recent academic achievements, including the selection of students in the Bihar Medical Services. He also appealed to address institutional gaps so that Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College could be formally included in the QUI framework.
Welcoming the students, Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, motivated the batch with his visionary words and emphasized the success of alumni serving in senior positions. He also called for greater representation of Unani faculty from Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, in national bodies such as the Ministry of AYUSH and NCISM.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Wasim Ahmad, Principal and Medical Superintendent of SUMCH Allahabad, described the orientation as a defining moment in the academic journey of every medical student. He stressed the importance of recognizing Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College’s inclusion in QUI, reflecting its stature in Unani education.
Delivering the Presidential Address, Hakeem Maudood Ashraf emphasized the importance of classical Unani texts, particularly Ilmul Advia and Kulliyat, in clinical practice. He urged the students to seek mentorship from seasoned physicians to strengthen their diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Asia Sultana, Chief Coordinator of the program, who acknowledged the contributions of faculty members, and coordinators including Dr. Aziz-Ur Rehman, and Dr. S. M. Ahmer. The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Abiha Ahmad Khan.
